Brazil | Lignum Latin America turns 10 and the International Wood Week consolidates its technical agenda in Curitiba
The wood processing industry in Latin America is preparing the details for the celebration of the International Wood Week (SIM 2026) and the sixth edition of Lignum Latin America, an event that this year commemorates a decade of history since its origins as Lignum Brasil, organized by the Malinosvki Group.
The event will take place from September 14 to 17 at the Expotrade Convention Center in Pinhais (Metropolitan Region of Curitiba) and at the FIEP Industry Campus, occupying an area of more than 20,000 square meters. The organizers projections seek to revalidate the indicators registered in the 2024 edition, an opportunity in which the fair brought together 11,190 attendees from 22 countries and registered an increase of 35% in visitors and 40% in exhibition area compared to the 2022 period. The forest base of southern Brazil: scale and export volume The development of Lignum Latin America is directly linked to the economic weight of the forests cultivated in southern Brazil. The region concentrates 89% of the pine plantations in that country, reaching 1.7 million hectares out of a national total of 1.9 million. According to official data from the Associação Sulbrasileira de Empresas Florestais (ASBR), the pine forest mass is distributed mainly between the states of Santa Catarina (713,600 ha), Paraná (710,800 ha) and Rio Grande do Sul (283,900 ha). This raw material supplies an industrial network of more than 27,000 companies that generate nearly 286,600 direct jobs. The strength of the sector is reflected in the trade balance of the southern Brazilian region during the last consolidated fiscal year, highlighting the following export items: Coniferous plywood: US$ 792.4 million. • Sawn pine wood: US$ 636 million.• Furniture: US$ 520 million.• Doors: US$ 378 million.• Moldings: US$ 369 million.• Reconstituted boards: US$ 304 million.Conference agenda and technical debatesInternational Wood Week will articulate its program through specialized seminars that will address everything from silvicultural management to the industrialized construction market:6° WoodTrade Brazil (09/14): Organized by the Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Madeira Processada Mecanicamente (Abimci) and the Malinovski consultancy at FIEP, it will analyze the competitiveness of the global market for boards, sawn wood and pallets.2° Pinus Conecta (09/15 and 16): With the support of the forestry associations of the southern region (Ageflor, ACR and Apre), it will address genetic advances, the pest management and production costs of the Pinus genus.4° Wood Protection (15 and 16/09): Promoted by the Associação Brasileira de Preservadores de Madeira (ABPM), it will be focused on preservation technologies, thermal treatment and massive wood construction systems.WoodRise Tour Curitiba (15 to 17/09): Academic module focused on engineering, sustainable architecture and the development of structural wood for buildings on an urban scale.7° Encapp (09/15 to 09/17): The Puerta Productive Chain Meeting will develop business rounds between opening manufacturers and input suppliers. 4th RH Florestal (09/17): Space dedicated to human capital management, process automation and training of middle management in the forestry industry.
