The IX National Congress of Native Flora of Chile has already opened its registration and call for presentation of works. The meeting, which will take place in September 2026 in Santiago, will bring together researchers, students, organizations and nature lovers around talks, workshops, experiences and discussions on biodiversity, ecological restoration and conservation of native species. Among the guests, Gloria Montenegro, Ariel Orellana, Luis Felipe Hinojosa and Rosa Scherson stand out.
The world of native flora will meet again in September with a new edition of the National Congress of Native Flora of Chile, a meeting that for years has established itself as one of the main spaces for exchange around the countrys plant heritage. The ninth version of the event will be held on September 3, 4 and 5, 2026 at the San Joaquín Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in Santiago, and has already opened both its call for presentation of works and its registration for attendees. Organized by the Faculty of Agronomy and Natural Systems of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the University of Talca, the Chilean Native Flora Foundation and the Pumahuida Nursery, the Congress seeks to bring together to researchers, students, professionals, organizations and people interested in the conservation, study and valuation of Chilean flora. Since its first edition, held in 2008, the meeting has promoted dialogue between different disciplines and actors linked to native ecosystems, generating a space where science, education, culture, ecological restoration and territorial experiences converge. This year, in addition to talks and round tables, the program includes workshops, participatory activities, presentation of research and a field trip during the last day. More than 250 people from different areas participate in each edition, including agronomy, landscaping, biology, art and environmental education. The call to present research and experiences will remain open until June 8, 2026. Those who wish to participate can send works related to various thematic areas, including conservation and biodiversity, ecosystem services, architecture and landscape, environmental restoration, propagation and domestication of species, biotechnology, phytochemistry, bioprospecting and uses traditions of the native flora. Beyond the academic field, the Congress also seeks to open the conversation towards a broad view of biodiversity, incorporating social, cultural and territorial dimensions associated with the Chilean plant heritage. Among the confirmed exhibitors for this edition, the academic Gloria Montenegro stands out, a reference in the study and conservation of Chilean flora; Ariel Orellana, researcher who recently participated in studies on the resistance of the guanaco foot in the Atacama Desert; Luis Felipe Hinojosa, specialist in paleobotany and historical biogeography; and Rosa Scherson, director of the Plant Systematics and Evolution Laboratory at the University of Chile, whose work focuses on understanding how landscapes and species could change in the face of different climatic scenarios. Registration to attend the event is now available, including an early registration stage with preferential pricing (end of early registration: June 31). Both job applications and registrations can be made through the official Congress site.
