The climate-tech startup Satellites on Fire, led by its co-founder and CEO Franco Rodriguez Viau (22), reported that this Monday it closed an investment round of US$2.7 million led by Dalus Capital, with the participation of prominent funds such as Draper Associates, Vitamin C and Draper Cygnus VC, among others.
This will allow it to strengthen its innovative fire detection early warning project, which was born in 2020—together with Joaquín Chamo and Ulises López Pacholczak—based on Rodríguez Viaus personal experience with forest fires in Argentina. During his adolescence, Rodríguez Viau saw up close how the fire affected families around him and destroyed homes, a situation that led him to think about a tool capable of detecting fire outbreaks earlier and improving response capacity. On that basis, the company developed a platform driven by artificial intelligence that integrates satellite information every five minutes, cameras on towers and propagation simulation models. In 2025, our system helped in the response to more than 600 forest fires, says Rodríguez Viau. Our mission is to use technology to protect communities and preserve biodiversity and forests before it is too late, adds the young Argentine entrepreneur, in a press report. Unlike existing systems that develop their own satellites or their own cameras, which are slow, expensive and difficult to scale, the Satellites on Fire differential lies in being a software-based platform that integrates any type of technology and manages to detect fire sources, on average, 35 minutes before the NASA system. This speed in detecting a fire increases the speed and effectiveness of containment, significantly reducing the impact of the fire. The company already has more than 55,000 users under a freemium model and fed its algorithms with more than 20,000 validations in the field, building one of the largest land report databases in Latin America. Diego Serebrisky, co-founder and Managing Partner of Dalus Capital, highlighted: We look for companies that use technology to solve the most critical problems on the planet. Satellites on Fire has demonstrated that, through the intelligent use of AI and the processing of satellite data in real time, it is possible to anticipate environmental catastrophes with a precision and scale that were previously unthinkable. It is a perfect example of how Latin American talent is creating world-class AI solutions to confront climate change. As for provincial governments, the services of this innovative technology for fire prevention were contracted by the Government of La Pampa. The system is integrated into AON forest insurance in Latin America, where it is used for risk calculation and mitigation. According to Generation Forest Invest, one of its forestry clients: We managed to detect several fires in time and act quickly. The system is agile, precise and very useful in the field. I would recommend this tool to any organization that needs to monitor territories and act quickly in the face of fire. With the new investment, the startup plans to improve its AI models, launch a parametric fire insurance product together with AON and develop tools to measure environmental impact, including avoided CO2 emissions. It will also advance its expansion into the United States market. The round also included the participation of Avesta Fund, Savia Ventures, Reciprocal, Zenani Capital, Innventure, Air Capital, Gain VC, Antom VC and Embarca Tech.
