The initiative is part of a strategy aimed at strengthening the conservation and regeneration of the Patagonian Andean forest, with priority in the use of local genetic material. Within the framework of the Lago Puelo National Park Management Plan, the Bosquear organization signed an institutional articulation agreement that enables entry to the protected area for the identification of seed stands and the collection of genetic material of native species.
During the last weeks, technical sessions were held to collect seeds from different forest species. The tasks were carried out using manual techniques and the use of networks. These works are carried out under criteria that seek to guarantee the care of the genetic material and its correct traceability. Seed collection for ecological restoration From the project they explained that working with seeds from the territory itself allows to reinforce the resilience of the ecosystem and preserve the ecological identity of the forest. This is because the plants that are developed will be adapted to the local environmental conditions, which favors the processes of natural regeneration. The collected seeds will later be produced in the nursery and will be destined for future ecological regeneration projects within the park. In this way, the material obtained will be incorporated into initiatives that seek to recover sectors of the native forest.
