Missions | They advance in the restoration with more than 5, native trees from areas of Foerster Provincial Park to strengthen a strategic biological corridor

More than 5, trees of native species were planted in sectors recently incorporated into the Horacio Foerster Park Guard Provincial Park, in the north of Misiones.

The initiative, promoted by the Argentine Wildlife Foundation together with the Ministry of Ecology and Renewable Natural Resources, seeks to restore areas that in the past were used for agricultural and livestock activities, thus improving the ecological connectivity and functionality of the protected area. Together with the park rangers of the Ministry of Ecology and residents of the park, we planted native species identified in previous surveys, as part of the restoration of the area, explained Jonatan Villalba, restoration and community specialist at the Wildlife Foundation. Argentina. Before the plantation it was necessary to subsoil the soil to decompact it, since in some sectors agricultural and livestock activities were previously carried out, he added. The lots, which cover nearly 1 hectares, were purchased and donated by the Wildlife Foundation in 224. Approximately 4% of the land had been deforested, so the restoration tasks focused on decompacting the soil, planting native species and the control of pastures to promote the natural regeneration of the forest. Evaristo Sosa, head of the Provincial Park Park Ranger Horacio Foerster, highlighted that these lots formed a peninsula that went into the park. Thanks to the joint work between the Ministry of Ecology and Wildlife, its purchase, donation and annexation to the protected area was achieved. In recent days we restored part of these lands with more than 5, native seedlings to help the natural regeneration of the mountain. The ecological restoration and expansion of the park strengthen the Urugua-í–Foerster Biological Corridor, considered strategic for the conservation of missionary biodiversity. This corridor connects large blocks of protected jungle, allowing the movement of species such as the jaguar, tapir and honey bear, in addition to preserving vital ecosystem services such as water and climate regulation.
