Interzum Award 2025: Innovation and sustainability that transform the furniture industry

Colonia, Germany - May 2025. The interzum fair is positioned again as the mecca of innovation for the furniture sector and interior design. This year, the prestigious Interzum Award 2025 surprised with a renewed approach in sustainability, presenting visionary solutions that redefine the use of materials, processes and resources throughout the production chain.

In its 13th edition, the contest evaluated 146 candidates from 23 countries, recognizing 66 outstanding proposals. Among them, twelve were awarded with the highest recognition: Best of the Best, a distinction that highlights those ideas that combine functionality, avant -garde design and ecological commitment.Rethinking Resources: The green heart of the 2025 edition The slogan Rethinking Resources: Circular and Biobased Solutions, the event not only rewarded the aesthetic and functional design, but also celebrated the innovation that bets on circularity, biotechnology and material efficiency.The Interzum award reflects the transformative potential of the industry and how sustainability is already an integral part of our design and development decisions, said Maik Fischer, director of Interzum.One of the novelties was the special category Rethinking Resources, which recognized projects such as:Dynamic Living of Häfele: a modular solution for compact homes, which integrates lighting, mobility and disassembly without waste.Vita Advanced Mattress from The Vita Group: an eco-conscious mattress made of recycled and biocircular materials.Pure Linoleum of Forbo Flooring: a natural surface that dispenses with artificial pigments, using only renewable ingredients such as linen, recycled wood and limestone.Technology, design and materials of the future interzum also highlighted high engineering products such as the exedra2 retractable system of Salize, the Zenit 3.0 regenerable panels of Alvic, or the Zeus three -dimensional plates of Mia SRL. All of them marked a trend in design, functionality and sustainability.The jury, composed of international experts in design, architecture and materials, stressed the role of these developments as promoters of change: We look for products that are more usable, more beautiful and more responsible with the planet, said Vito Ora?em, director of the Red Dot Design Center.A global showcase for the future of furniture award -winning projects are exposed in the Koelnmesse Boulevard Nord throughout the fair (from May 20 to 23) and, since May 20, they are also available in a permanent digital exhibition that expands its reach to the global public.With this edition, Interzum consolidates its role as an innovation and sustainability thermometer, celebrating not only the design of products, but the ideas that change the future of the habitat.
