"Wood is a resistant, sustainable and more profitable material in the long term," they say from FAIMA
From the Argentine Federation of the Wood and Allied Industry (FAIMA) they began a dissemination campaign on the benefits of using wood in housing construction, where they began mainly by marking five reasons: "It is a material with less environmental impact compared to other construction materials, it has greater energy efficiency, it is resistant and of quality, it has high insulation power and great flexibility of designs or adaptation”, they listed.
From the Argentine Federation of the Wood and Related Industry (FAIMA) they marked the 5 main reasons to choose wood for the construction of houses, considering that there are more and more new works, extensions, projects and construction of houses and buildings that seek to contribute to its inhabitants the maximum possible energy savings.
From orientation, materials, coatings, structures and other elements, wood is the common denominator that unites everyone, due to its characteristics and natural properties such as thermal and acoustic insulation, they indicate in a federation statement.
“Currently, the wood construction market in Argentina is in a process of sustained growth, despite the difficulties that arise along the way. Compared to 10 or 20 years ago, a significant change can be observed in the demand and in the supply of constructions with wood” affirms Daniel Vier, vice president of FAIMA and expert in construction with wood.
“A few years ago, wood was not considered a relevant construction material in Argentina, and it was used mainly for decorative elements or in rural constructions. Today, due to the need to build more efficient and sustainable homes, wood has become increasingly used in construction."
• LESS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Wood frame construction is beneficial to the environment compared to other resources due to the minimal impact it has on the supply chain. The cost of manufacturing, transporting and constructing wood frame homes and buildings is considerably less expensive than steel and concrete alternatives, wood immediately uses less energy and is a green solution.
In addition, the wood captures carbon, ensuring that the project's release of greenhouse gases is kept to a minimum.
Also, the Long Term Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of wood is much better than that of steel or concrete. This means that timber and mass timber works have a lower overall energy consumption rate at every step of the process, from the collection of materials to the long-term effects of maintenance.
• GREATER ENERGY EFFICIENCY
In fact, various studies indicate that 40% of energy consumption in Europe comes from buildings, as well as being responsible for 30% of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
These data are very significant because they highlight the need to commit to sustainable materials – such as wood – which improve the energy efficiency of homes and contribute to significant energy savings.
Wood is the only renewable building material. A highly recommended alternative that stands out for its hygroscopic properties, that is, its ability to absorb environmental humidity. This factor adds to its great behavior as a thermal insulator and contributes to maintaining interior temperatures for longer, which reduces consumption relative to the use of air conditioning devices and systems.
These properties make it the ideal product to achieve a high degree of efficiency in construction. But, in addition, it has a great capacity to absorb sounds. In other words, it also works as an acoustic insulator, improving interior comfort and increasing the well-being of users.
• EXCELLENT QUALITY
The natural beauty of wood provides serenity and harmony, its aroma, its partner with trees, both standing and processed into ceilings, walls, floors and furniture improve air quality, reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being. widespread and are much more productive for mental agility, both for the academic and work environment.
"Argentina has extensive forest areas and a great variety of wood species, which provides a solid base for the supply of material and diversity in wood construction," adds Vier on this point.
• HIGH INSULATION POWER
Unlike steel and concrete, the cellular structure of wood slows down heat loss. This means that the wooden structure is a good natural insulator for any project and can lead to a cheaper energy bill.
The wooden structure is not only good for capturing heat in the colder months, but also great for keeping out

Missions | The traditional National Wood Festival in November celebrates four decades of a popular gathering in San Vicente
The official announcement of the 4 th San Vicente National Wood Festival was made this Tuesday by the governor of Misiones, Hugo Passalacqua. The cultural and festive event will take place from November 5 to 9 at the Verón Gallardo Sports Center in San Vicente, Misiones, to celebrate four decades of history. The San Vicente National Wood Festival is a popular meeting point for the agroforestry and commercial community in the Alto Uruguay area, and is an opportunity for the forestry-industrial chain to expose its development and services. The festival includes cultural, artistic and economic promotion activities.
