19 de marzo: Día del Carpintero y del Artesano
El santoral de la fecha es San José Carpintero, que conmemora el oficio de quien fue el padre terrenal de Cristo. Si bien existieron artesanos antes de su aparición, se lo considera como símbolo de la artesanía por haber tomado masivo conocimiento de su oficio a través de la Biblia.
El carpintero es uno de los oficios más antiguos y populares del mundo. Cuando hablamos de un carpintero, muchos lo asocian a José de Arimatea, padre de Jesús de Nazareth, en una de las narraciones más influyentes para gran parte del mundo occidental: la Biblia, donde se habla de que el padre de Jesucristo era carpintero. Otro que eligió la profesión de carpintero para uno de los personajes más importantes en la historia de la literatura infantil fue Carlo Collodi, con su Pinocho, el muñeco de madera con corazón que surgió como fruto del trabajo del carpintero Geppeto.
Sabemos todos que llamamos carpintero a la persona dedicada al oficio del trabajo de la madera, ya sea de forma independiente o como un obrero en una empresa. Lo que en la carpintería no ha cambiado y sigue dando la nota es el costado artístico del oficio: el diseño, la concepción misma del mueble, desde la funcionalidad a la elegancia de la línea exterior. Desde la Cámara del Carpintero, los empresarios perciben que la situación económica advierte signos de reactivación, desde que no se importan tantos muebles como antes.
