Investigación recomienda realizar plantaciones de pino con manejo sustentable y "alejadas" de la selva misionera
El impacto de plantaciones de pino sobre la biodiversidad y las alternativas de manejo sustentable es tema de investigación en Misiones por especialistas del Instituto de Biología Subtropical (IBS, CONICET – UNaM).
Analizaron durante dos años las prácticas de cultivo de productores forestales, verificaron el impacto sobre la biodiversidad y recomendaron alternativas. Para los especialistas está demostrado que “de los dos tipos de manejos forestales que se realizan en Misiones, la alta densidad de cultivo afecta al ecosistema”.
En Argentina, más de 700 mil hectáreas -el equivalente a unas 500 canchas de fútbol como la del estadio de River Plate- están cubiertas por plantaciones de pinos (grupo de coníferas), según las cifras oficiales del Ministerio de Agroindustria de la Nación.
Esta especie cultivada tiene gran rendimiento industrial para la producción de base forestal como celulosa, papel y madera. De esa superficie total, más de 300 mil hectáreas corresponden a la provincia de Misiones, un territorio en el que las extraordinarias condiciones bioclimáticas permiten un crecimiento récord de los árboles, que no se registra en otros lugares del mundo.
Aunque la industria forestal representa una actividad productiva de gran importancia para toda la región del Nordeste – Corrientes también cuenta con más de 200 mil hectáreas cultivadas con pinos a las que se suman otras 100 mil con eucaliptos -, el impacto ambiental de esta práctica en territorios de gran biodiversidad genera preocupación a los investigadores.
Por ello, para obtener evidencia local de los efectos de las plantaciones, especialistas del Instituto de Biología Subtropical (IBS, CONICET – UNaM) estudiaron dos tipos de manejos forestales que se realizan en Misiones, demostrando cómo la alta densidad de cultivo afecta al ecosistema.
Este sería el primer estudio en Misiones que aporta evidencia del efecto de estos manejos en la conservación de especies de plantas nativas que ofrecen refugio y alimento a especies animales, y su investigación se extendió por dos años.
