Salvador de Bahía will host the III Forestry Production Seminar
Within the framework of a project aimed at strengthening sustainable forest production in the state, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquaculture of Bahia (SEAGRI), the Association of Forestry Companies of Bahia (ABAF) and the Federal University of Recôncavo Baiano (UFRB) will hold the “III Seminar on Forest Production” on October 21, 2026 in the city of Cruz das Almas (BA).
The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the UFRB auditorium (Central Library Building – Rua Rui Barbosa, 710, Centro). With free places (limited), it is necessary to register through the link https://ufrb.edu.br/ccaab/iiiproflor, and has the support of the Luís Eduardo Magalhães Foundation (FLEM). The seminar offers a space for integration between the university, the productive sector, professionals, students, rural producers, companies and public and private institutions linked to the forestry production chain. The event seeks to expand the debate on the challenges and opportunities of forestry production, addressing everything from planning and establishing plantations to management, harvesting, transportation, marketing, different uses and sources, financing and new perspectives for the sector, reports Professor Dr. Elton da Silva Leite, from the UFRB. The program also includes the symbolic planting of young trees for the installation of the "Eucalyptus Square" in a place defined by the host partner, the UFRB, focusing on shade, thermal comfort and the improvement of public spaces, contributing to better air quality and life in cities. In addition to the benefits they contribute to climate change mitigation, trees are the greatest environmental asset that also exists in cities, since they reduce wind speed, noise and visual pollution, in addition to providing shelter and food for wildlife. They also help preserve waterways, protect the soil, preventing wear, erosion and landslides. They provide shade and contribute to regulating the temperature and humidity of our planet, explains the president of the Board of Directors of ABAF, Fernando Branco. Planting to guarantee the continuity of forestry production: The main objective of the seminar, which is part of the ABAF "Planting to guarantee the continuity of forestry production" program, is to encourage small and medium-sized rural producers to invest in the planting and management of commercial forests for the production of multiple-use wood, through the integrated system of cultivation, livestock and forestry. (ICLF), emphasizing the economic and environmental benefits of this combination. It also seeks to promote the ABC+ Program, the Payments for Environmental Services (PES) system, and address the other two vertices of this productive triangle: wood processors and users of wood products. The forestry sector can be more comprehensive and inclusive, since wood has a wide variety of uses. The idea is to encourage Bahía to produce all the wood that the state needs, by integrating forestry cultivation with agriculture and/or livestock, which becomes one of the best alternatives as a source of supplementary income. We also intend to expand access to this knowledge throughout the state, highlights Fernando Branco. The alliance between SEAGRI and ABAF is already giving concrete results in different regions. In September 2025, the institutions organized the “Jiquiriçá Valley Forest Production Seminar” in Maracás (BA), bringing together producers, managers and specialists to analyze the strengthening of the activity. In May 2026, the initiative was carried out in Eunápolis. In February of this year, another area of ??action was started in Barreiras (BA), with the planting of seedlings as part of the functional urban forestry project. For the submission of scientific works and registration: https://ufrb.edu.br/ccaab/iiiproflorFor more information: proflor@evento.ufrb.edu.brFollow the broadcast:Transmissão no YouTube da UFRB
